Healthy Cupcake in San Diego

I guess I could say I'm pretty lucky.  Well, lucky enough to have had the chance to call San Diego, California home for a year.  It all started in the spring of 2010.  Shane and I were both living with our parents.  I was a substitute teacher, searching for the elusive "real" teaching job.  Life didn't seem so lucky at the time.

And then out left field Shane gets the opportunity of a lifetime.  Potential job openings in California.  Well, we didn't just hop on a plane after hearing the words job in California.  We had the choice of a few different locations throughout Cali and although the whole state of CA seems gorgeous I didn't want to live just anywhere and we were doing some serious thinking.   But then we got the call that changed the course of our lives.  San Diego.

It was the icing on the cupcake.  We were moving to California.  And not just any old place...we'd be in America's Finest City!  You may think that we had been there previously and fell in love, but in actuality both of us had never set foot in California.  But at the time I was training with Team in Training to run the Rock 'n' Roll SAN DIEGO Marathon and had just been hearing the best things about the city.

I think it was meant to be.  Shane and I packed up our things, got the cats in their carriers and set out for adventure!  We arrived in San Diego on Friday, June 4th, signed our lease Saturday, June 5th, and then I ran my first marathon on Sunday, June 6th!  It was a whirlwind of activity that first weekend, but it is one of the most memorable of my life.  So many changes and so much accomplishment in such a short span of time.

Of course San Diego will always hold a special place in my heart, but after a year of exploring out on the west coast, Shane and I ultimately decided that we wanted to root ourselves in New Jersey, close to family and friends.

I've compiled a list of places and things we did in San Diego, so if you ever visit, hopefully this will help you out!  This is by no means comprehensive and there are  TON of things to do, so do your research before coming out!  We were here a year and want to come back and visit to add to our list!
